MEMORIA DO PESCADOR
CULTURAL PROJECT
LIVING MEMORY OF THE COAST
The Memória do Pescador Project was born from the desire to preserve and share the stories, knowledge, and traditions of Ceará’s coast. The idea emerged in a simple way, through conversations with visitors during the tours and also at the restaurant while the fish was being prepared. In these encounters, it became clear that the region holds many important stories — stories of fishermen, families, communities, customs, food, plants, rivers, tides, and ways of life that are part of the local identity. From this feeling came the dream of creating, on Praia das Moitas, in Amontada, a space dedicated to the memory of the region, bringing together experiences from Amontada, Itapipoca, and Itarema. A place where residents, visitors, and new generations can learn more about the local culture and value everything that has been passed down over time. The project is still under construction and relies on the support of the community, partners, and donations. The goal is to transform this space into a meeting point for learning and cultural preservation. In the future, Memória do Pescador aims to host conversation circles, talks, classes, workshops, cultural practices, regional cooking classes, and activities connected to artisanal fishing, gastronomy, plants, food, customs, and the life stories of the community. More than a physical space, the project is a way to keep the memory of our people alive and strengthen the identity of Ceará’s coast. It is an invitation to listen, learn, preserve, and value the roots of those who live between the land, the river, and the sea.
